60 easily! I went just over 70mph on my elite over the summer with a corsa and 8.44 gears.

Did you by chance ever snag a 1/8 mile speed?

Cheers!

No, i never raced the scoot at the track. It wouldn't do very well anyway as it still has the stock clutch springs!

Got the gears installed, no major headaches... Still pulls really hard off the line, not as hard as before though.... RPM stays more constant at least on my limited test run on the driveway... It used to be pretty wound out by halfway down, now its still pulling in the midrange on the vario... cant wait to see what it does on the track...

took the Elite down the road a bit today with a GPS in my pocket... I recorded a 53.9mph top speed, It dosen't seem to want to pull all the way to top rpm.. which seems logical since on the dyno power dropped off pretty steep after about 8500.. Guess I'll check the jetting and then get to work on a new pipe design.. :D

Cool! That's about a 10mph difference from before, right?

Best,

Almost 10mph, previous best speed at the track was 45.3... so around 8 and a half.. It was strange to be power limited instead of rpm limited... might get around to working on that before we go to the track again... might not.. either way It should be faster in the eighth mile..

OMG OZI Expansion Chamber!

Postby Areomyst » Tue Nov 20, 2012 10:25 am

Daniel's been working on an exhaust for this thing! I can't wait to see the results. I'm going to post up the photos, but I believe I'll let him speak for himself on the specs. It looks really clean so far! Good job dude.

OZI Tuning FTW! :P

Nice lookin' pipe there! How are you going to do the header, the old cut and turn?

Thanks!, yeah the original plan was to cut and turn each piece as I went. turns out its pretty darn hard to cut accurately... so I wound up printing out cone patterns for each section in the bend... 20 pieces 10mm long with a +5 -5 angle on each one making each section turn 10 degrees... and then cutting them out by hand with snips... its looking good now, but the first attempt didn't look great.. and you don't wanna know how much time its taking... What you see in the pics only took 3 or 4 hours, but the header section is killing me... it will wind up replacing roughly half of the shallow tapered lead in pipe.... tuned length is 796mm

for the record this pipe is designed using the IWT expansion chamber design utility and is sized to give max power at 10500 rpm... we shall see how well it works, I'm not aching to make another one right away... lol

Yeah, I hear you about the work involved. Almost makes it worth spending the 300-400 on an off-the-shelf product, huh? Of course, then you don't get to realize the full potential of that little beast. We call it labor of love!

If it wasn't work I actually enjoy doing I might have considered buying an off the shelf pipe....Metal fab is in my blood as much as gasoline... and then there's the consideration that I have much more time than money at the moment... and also the fact that no off the shelf pipe is going to match my setup exactly.... I really can't wait to see the results, but I had to take a break for a couple days...between the cutting with snips and hammering my poor arm couldn't take any more... the welding actually isn't taking that long, if the pieces fit good I don't even need filler rod... I should be able to get it done before we go to the track again...
