Downsizing my company. Here's why.

I have been absent from the forum for quite a while. I apologize. Life over the past 4 years has been tough. That said, I have made some big-deal decisions about my small scooter repair shop, and in my personal life as well.

Anyway, here is the statement I released the other day:

Joshua Alleman on Facebook wrote:

The future of The Scooter Garage is changing quite a bit. Over the past several years (roughly three) I have experienced a great deal of debilitating health issues. I do not want to get too detailed with my health, as that is not the subject matter here, but suffice to say that I have had many bouts of walking with a cane, loosing my voice, and extreme fatigue issues that are related to a difficult to treat condition. These combined ailments, along with deaths in the family and other things has really affected what I am physically and mentally able to do at The Scooter Garage.

As most (if not all) of you know I have a wife and kids at home. Our youngest is about a year and a half old. I do not want to miss her growing up, and I need to be able to focus on home.

I also want to get back to some of my "Scooter Roots". Scooters are something I am extremely passionate about. I have operated for over 10 years in hopes of spreading scooter knowledge and information, as well as organizing the occasional ride, race, or meet-up. I would like to re-kindle the forum. I want to go whip my Derbi around the kart track at VIR with my friends. I want to drag race my Yamaha Jog, and I want to ride through the mountains on my GTS250 with my 9 year old.

In search of employment that was less stress, and better for myself and my family overall, I started a job at a machine shop last year. I have attempted to keep my business open, but it is clear that if I am going to do so that I must make some big changes, and fast.

Effective 1/1/2018, TSG will specialize only in special project bikes (Racing 2-strokes, custom bikes, etc) and Vespas (Modern and Vintage). I will also continue maintaining scooters to preferred clients, but I will not be accepting new clients with scooters other than Vespa or a special projects.

We no longer accept walk-in's to drop bikes off. Coming by to buy a part or something is fine - but I don't have room to take in more bikes.

This is because I have to lessen the volume of work coming into the shop by A LOT. I cannot be a high volume shop and provide the level of service that I enjoy giving.

My sincere hope is that as I move forward with my new plans for TSG, that I never have to deal with the frustration and shame of having someone's scooter here for way too long. I want to be able to be awesome for the people that I am working with. I'm working hard to finish the details of this new business model, and I'm clearing out the shop of as many scooters as I can.

As the situation develops, I will make posts and changes to TSG's Facebook page in effort to keep people informed.

Thank you to every single one of you scooter people out there who have been a part of the scooter community that I have been (and continue to be) so fortunate to serve.

Kind Regards,

~Joshua Alleman

Been meaning to check up on you - very pleased that you are doing what is best for you. I'm sure the decision did not come easy. Hoping that things will go smoothly for you.

Very glad to see that you are keeping at the forum. Our GRSC forum is down - something happened when Go Daddy moved to new servers. I need to find someone with the time to work out the phpbb issue.

There is so much good information archived here - for those of us that still scoot with the two-smokes it is a treasure trove. Thanks for keeping at it, Josh.

Hey Dan,

Thank you for writing! The decision to make these changes didn't come easy, but it is allowing me the kind of flexibility with my shop that I can really flourish with - and keep my family first. I can't wait to show all my Scooter Invasion crew what I've been up to in the shop.

Oh, hey for the GRSC forum - I used, and was extremely satisfied with Mark's services. In fact, I am hiring the him again soon to help update the forum.

Eventually, I would like to get ahold of the old school forum crew and see if we can organize a real race - Twist 'N Gone style. We'll see. Hopefully someday something can come of that. :)

Just saw this posting - I try to keep up, but I'm spread out across so many forums. I've deleted a few misc spam posts over the last few months. Hope everything works out for you Josh, both health and the new job. :)
