Insurance required for NC riders in 2016:

"House Bill 148, approved June 23 by lawmakers, requires moped drivers to have minimum liability insurance as defined under state law, which is $30,000 for injury or death of one person, $60,000 for injury or death of two or more people and $25,000 for property damage."

The new law goes into effect July 1, 2016.

Well, most people I have run into seem to be taking the new law pretty well.

Unfortunately I've seen several 150cc scooters that the NC DMV gave moped tags for, despite the law...

Overall, it seems like a pretty painless process. I haven't registered my 50cc Kymco yet, as I've been riding the GTS 250 for the past year. I may even register the 50cc as a motorcycle to get away with speeds greater than 30mph...

Hi Josh,

I have a SYM PCH 50. Can't find anybody in Winsto-Salem that will repair it.
I've tried Big Toy Store, and Honda with no luck.
Got to be someone in W-S that will work on it for pocket change?

Taking the new law well. Already have tag, and insurance voluntarally.
Glad to see feedback.

Found somebody that will repair SYM's in Winston. PM me for info.
Also know an insurance agent that will help you get insurance.

DMV will revoke your tag if you don't comply by July 1. I think this as harsh on DMV's part.

Call your insurance company and request a form FS-1 to be sent to DMV.
They can do it electronically.
You can take info to DMV office, and have it processed there too.
Thanks.

I just got a quote for $71.96 for the year on a 2006 Vespa LX50 from Progressive. Seems kind of high, but a call to Geico was $86.99 I currently have three other motorcycles on the Progressive policy, with discounts for clean driving record, multi-vehicle, multi policy (home owner), and Motorcycle Safety Foundation Course.

Wow! Starreem, $ 72.00 is great! I have Integon and it runs about $75.00.
$80.00 is what it typically runs with a good driving record. Go for it.
